Apparently there’s a college tournament going down on Jeopardy this week, and the show’s producers must have read somewhere that college-aged kids are really into this super weird style of music called indie rock, which appeared as a category in the Double Jeopardy round last night. The questions were as followed:
$400: Ben Gibbard is the lead singer of this band that sounds like a ride a hottie should turn down.
$800: Kingsizemaybe’s song “Dallas” recalls the day of this man’s assassination.
$1200: L.A.’s Silversun Pickups got their name from a store at the corner of Silver Lake Blvd. & this one with a famous “strip.”
$1600: As a child, Jenny Lewis appeared on “Baywatch”; Now she fronts this “Portions for Foxes” band.
$2000: Think twice before kissing these “hot” Oklahoma indie stars who sang “Do You Realize?”
So how’d they fare?
Well, a girl who eventually wound up with $1 got the Death Cab question right. They got the next two as well, obviously, because they had nothing to do with indie rock. For the Rilo Kiley question, one of the dudes guessed Fleet Foxes, which was adorable. Then for the Flaming Lips question, there were fucking crickets. Dead air. Not even a guess, as if they’d spent high school (grammar school?) studying so hard that they’ve never even seen a car commercial. [The L Magazine]
This is awesome and awful all wrapped into one.
